Cedric Benson

The Chicago Bears waived running back Cedric Benson following his second arrest in less than five weeks. He was arrested Saturday, June 7, in Austin, Texas, on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Benson was previously arrested Saturday, May 3, on charges of boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest. The team chose not to part ways with Benson after his first arrest and even supported him to a degree.

The Bears made Benson the starter in 2007 after trading running back Thomas Jones to the New York Jets. Jones shared the workload with Benson when they were together in 2006. However, Benson started only 11 games last season and was unable to produce as was expected. He amassed 674 yards and four rushing touchdowns on 196 attempts (3.4 yards-per-carry average).
