Going into the latest filming of HBO’s “Costas Now”, Bob Costas and guest Buzz Bissinger had a plan. The old school journalists would invite the internet’s premier Sports Blog, Deadspin, to the Costas panel for a premeditated attack on sports blogging.
Will Leach, the founder and head honcho at Deadspin, would barely get a chance to speak as Buzz loudly yelled hand picked reader comments from the Deadspin site. Bob, as host of the show, would let the rant marathon go. We watched in disbelief at the loose rage and suppressed anger of old Buzz. Shame on Bob. Shame on Buzz. Shame on HBO.
This airing will do nothing for Costas Now and Bob’s career. The once bright, yet feminine, broadcaster has decided to go “Tom Cruise” on the career that gave him so much.
To Buzz, we offer this: Change is real. The “Information Age” too, is real. Put a little ice on your bruised ego, and trim up the mullet. Deadspin is a giant, it’s fans are many, and you just pissed off between 8-9 million of them.
PS, you look the Fly and you are boring to readers under the age of 70.
