After two seasons calling plays for NFL Network, Bryant Gumbel has opted out of future duties as the voice of the games for the channel.
Said the high pitched announcer:
I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to call NFL Network games the past two years, which was a new experience for me. But we’ve agreed that we’d all be better served going in different directions. There are a lot of talented people at NFL Network. I thank them, I wish them well, and I have no doubt that they will be very successful going forward.
Although Mr. Gay Gumbel had taken his share of lumps from critics for his role in the broadcast booth, NFL Network still maintained an upward ratings trend over the course of the season, peaking with the simulcast game featuring the undefeated New England Patriots versus eventual Super Bowl Champion the New York Giants in the season finale.

Ummmm, Bryant didn’t quit. He was likely canned for being too feminine. His figure skating voice, along with his on-air reference to Tony Romo as ” Rick Romo” were enough for the NFL Network execs to make a very smart decision; that is, release Gumbel into the gay wild.
Keep it pink Bryant, we’re not mad at you……just a little disappointed.
